The North Okanagan Valley Orchestra
The North Okanagan Valley Orchestra (NOVO) was formed in September of 2023 to provide a place for community musicians to play and share their love of orchestral music with others. Under the direction of Dr. Terry Pitt-Brooke, known for his work with AURA, the OSO Chorus and the Vernon Proms All-Bach concerts, NOVO currently consists of 30 musicians, ranging in age from teens to 80+.
NOVO provides an environment where our players work on continually improving their individual musicianship, and contributing to the balanced, overall sound of an orchestra. We are always looking for intermediate to advanced string players to join us, and may also have opportunities for players of some wind instruments. From writer-producer-director Todd Field comes TÁR, starring Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the groundbreaking conductor of a major German Orchestra. We meet Tár at the height of her career, as she’s preparing both a book launch and a much-anticipated live performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Over the ensuing weeks, her life unravels in a singularly modern way. The result is a searing examination of power and its impact and durability in today’s society.
